Warsaw Accepts Bids For Danek Sewer Project

The Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety accepted bids Friday for the water and sewer expansion project for Sofamor Danek.

The construction site for Sofamor Danek is on U.S. 30W.

Six bids were made for the water and sewer expansion ranging from $579,164 to $834,704.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins said the bids will be available for inspection next week in the office of Warsaw clerk-treasurer Elaine Call.

In other business:

• Board members signed a contract and a notice to proceed with Niblock Excavating for the Walnut Creek interceptor project.

• Warsaw Building Inspector Pam Kennedy received permission to use a city vehicle this weekend.

Kennedy was involved in an automobile accident Friday morning.

"A van hit me," Kennedy said. "It may be totaled. It was that bad."

• Kennedy requested the release of a lien for Rebecca Buskirk Davis, owner of property at 1817 Reider St.

She said the owner had 90 days to demolish a garage on the property, clean up the debris and start construction on a new one. Kennedy said the garage was torn down and left in a pile. The board approved the lien release.

• Andy McCleary, activities director for Warsaw City Parks and Recreation Department, presented five contracts to the board concerning the Mantis Skate Park.

McCleary said four of the contracts were for entertainment and/or bands for the park and one was for commercials and publicity on Warsaw radio station 102.7.

McCleary has also been formulating a detailed list of rules and an operations manual for Mantis Skate Park.

• Board members approved and welcomed new employee Aaron Bolinger to the Warsaw Fire Department.

• Warsaw Fire Department Chief Ken Shepherd requested permission for firefighter David Vercauteren to purchase two items for the fire department: a pry bar and a carrying belt to attach the bar to the firefighters' gear.

Board members approved Shepherd's request.
