Warrior Boys Kickers Open Season With Loss

TOPEKA - The Wawasee boys soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 loss to Topeka Tuesday night.

Westview scored in the sixth minute of the first half after a defensive miscue by the Warriors. Westview scored again in the 13th minute to go up 2-0.

At the end of the first half Warrior Ryan Beer sent a ball that shot off the cross bar and out of bounds with just one second left to play in the half.

Both teams played even and to a scoreless second half.

The Warriors are next in action at home against Bethany Christian. The match begins at 11:30 a.m.

Tuesday in Winona Lake

Lakeland Christian Academy opened its season with a 5-2 victory over visiting Elkhart Christian Academy in boys soccer action. David Maithya led the Cougars with two goals and two assits. Evan Pickens, Charles Lee and Joel Franklin also added goals. LCA travels to Argos High School Friday night at 6:30 p.m

Tuesday in Fort Wayne

The Manchester boys tennis team had its way with Elmhurst, drubbing the Trojans 5-0. The Squires' No. 1 singles player, Dustin Burgan, led the way with a 6-2, 6-1 pasting of Mike Turcovsky. The Squires 1-0, play Thursday at Manchester College against Maconaquah.

The Wawasee girls golf team continues to pummel all comers in match play. The Warriors sent West Noble home with a loss from Maxwelton Golf Club, shooting a 179 to West Noble's 226. Wawasee's Jessica Rondeau won medalist honors with a 39. Wawasee is 6-1 and will play host to Huntington North on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

On the strength of Emily Johnson's 39 and Jessica Sadler's 46, the Warsaw girls golf team beat host Whitko 187-220 at Sycamore Golf Course. Johnson won medalist for the match, while Sadler finished in second. Jayanna Begley was the low scorer for the Wildcats with a 49. Warsaw's next match is Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against Valley and Wabash at Mill Creek. Whitko, 2-3, hosts Wabash on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The Wawasee girls soccer team began its season with some fireworks against West Noble Tuesday, winning 6-3. The Warriors were led by Megan Walker's four goals. Kristin Lemaitre and Natalie Garcia each added a goal. Lemaitre had four assists as well.Keeper Heather Tilton saved five shots on goal for Wawasee. The Warriors, 1-0, are next in action at 5 p.m. at East Noble.

The Wawasee Warrior girls cross country team competed in the Dekalb Invite, a non-scoring meet, Tuesday. Rachel Sticther won the event with a strong time of 14:55 The Warrior harriers are next in action at the South Bend Stampede Saturday.

Coach Jerid Stoffel and his squad left dissapointed but look to improve on Saturday when they travel to New Prarie.

The Triton Trojan volleyball team took on the Cavemen of Mishawaka, a state powerhouse, and were clubbed in the first game of their season 9-25, 9-25, 4-25. Triton 0-1 looks to get in the win column on Thursday when they travel to Oregon Davis.
