SYRACUSE – Warren G. Benson, 89, Syracuse, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 24, 2013, peacefully in his home with his family surrounding him.
He was born May 26, 1924, in Etna Green, to Ora and Celia Jones Benson. On Jan. 24, 1948, in Syracuse, he married Miriam E. “Pat” Losee, who survives.
He lived most of his life in the Syracuse area and graduated in 1942 from Syracuse High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. He formerly owned and operated the Syracuse Dry Cleaners for 28 years and prior to that he was employed at Fiedke Dry Cleaners in Goshen, and Cambridge and Liberty Mobile Homes, Syracuse. He was a member of the Church of God, North Webster, life member and past commander of the Millersburg American Legion and VFW in Syracuse.
Also surviving are a daughter, Gail Benson-Sauers; a son, Jim (and spouse Pam) Benson, all of Syracuse; six grandchildren: Amanda Benson, Brianne Sauers, Kim Davis, Leslie Vanover, Angela Frost and David Killian; several great-grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ilene Lindeman and Mary Stiffler, both of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Patrick; a son, Carl Benson; and great-great grandsons, Henry Davis and Thomas Archer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
