AKRON - Warren Eugene "Gene" Montague, 68, of 207 N. Maple St., Akron, died at 9:50 p.m. March 27, 2009, in his residence.
He was born May 16, 1940, in Warsaw, to LaVaun and Celia Lemler Montague. He married Judy Swihart, who survives.
He was a truck driver and did automobile body work. He was a 1958 Bourbon High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea and Germany with his last year of service in 1969. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343, Rochester, and American Legion Post 424, Bourbon. He attended Bourbon United Pentecostal Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tammy (and spouse James) Bowser, Nappanee, and Tina (and spouse Tim) Alspaugh, Akron; two sons, Roger (and spouse Scarlet) Montague, Akron, and Richard Montague, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Nila (and Gene) Davis and Phyllis Trentham, all of Texas; two brothers, Neil (and spouse Dori) Montague, Bremen, and Tom Montague, Schererville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastors Mark Cottrill and Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Rochester.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
