War Haven Games, 3121 E. Center St., Warsaw, celebrated its opening Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Pierson Seitz said War Haven sells tabletop board games and trading card games.
“We also have a large open space for gaming, which is free to use. Anyone can come in and play games and hang out. We also have a private (Dungeons and Dragons) room for people that would like to either get private games or D&D sessions in. And we’re just hoping to be a community hub for all things tabletop,” he said.
War Haven sells games like Pathfinder, D&D, Song of Ice and Fire, Halo Flashpoint, Star Wars Legion and Rising Sun.
“We carry the basics. We also carry a lot of expansions. So what we’re trying to do is provide the things you can’t really find elsewhere,” he said, adding War Haven sells hobby items such as paint bots, paint brushes and hobby tools, “anything to paint up your miniatures or your maps or your terrain power if you would like to do that.”
War Haven has been at its Center Street location since May 1 and had “a very, very soft opening where I opened the doors for people to come in and start playing and using it as a community space while I was working on getting product in the door,” he said. The grand opening is Saturday.
He joined the War Hammer community about two years ago and “we’ve been playing out of people’s garages and houses. And I’m also part of the board game communities spread around the city and we needed a place to play. So I identified a need and I did what I can to fulfill that need,” Seitz said.
What makes War Haven different is they are focused primarily on board games and “all the other spots in town are either trading card game stores or collectible card games,” Seitz said, adding War Haven is primarily board games and they do dabble in the card games.
What War Haven is hoping for with their large gaming space is to provide a community hub for people who want to play larger games, he said. They want to have the community come to them and use their space as a hangout and relaxation spot.
They will run events and tournaments every day of the week and will do hobby nights, he said. War Haven is on Google Maps, so their primary information should be on Google Maps. They are also on Facebook, Instagram and on Discord for anyone looking for information on events.
After the grand opening Saturday, hours will be 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Seitz said they are open to opening up their hours more.
