Walker Resigns WHA Position

Posted

Catharine Walker presided over the final meeting of her career Monday as executive director of the Warsaw Housing Authority.

Walker has served as executive director of the agency for two years and has worked with the WHA for 10 years. She is leaving to take a job in the private sector.

The WHA board of directors accepted her resignation Monday with regret.

"It made me very sad to receive the letter," said board president Bob Kline, "but I'm glad for you."

The search is now on for a replacement. Ten resums have been received in response to advertisements. An executive committee of the board is in the process of reviewing those applications and a decision will be made as soon as possible.

During the interim, the board approved allowing Walker to work part-time for the housing authority to ensure that finances are taken care of and payroll is issued.

Board member Sue Charlton made the motion to "accept Catharine's willingness to help us through this transition period ... with compensation."

"We accept your resignation with regret and wish you godspeed," said board member Tom Lemon.

Also in attendance Monday was board member Dennis Cultice. Board member Sherri Ruggier-Milton was absent, as was Porter Polston, the Warsaw City Council representative to the WHA board.

An open house to honor Walker is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the WHA office at 220 S. Buffalo St., Suite 2, Warsaw.
