Wal-Mart Supercenter Plans In The Works

Posted

Wal-Mart and Petro Brothers Chrysler Plymouth Dodge Jeep & Eagle will soon be neighbors in Warsaw.

Petro Brothers sold property to Wal-Mart at Ind. 15N and U.S. 30 to build a new Super Wal-Mart.

"We're supposed to break ground within the next month or two," store manager Gary Elders said. "It's all approved. But I don't think the site plans are all approved yet."

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins said Wal-Mart representatives "have been talking to Jeff (Noffsinger) and the planning department."

He also confirmed that site plan approval has not yet taken place.

Elders said all plans have been filed with Warsaw, and the city council has been given copies of the plans.

But, said city planner Jeff Noffsinger: "That is incorrect. Nobody's filed anything at this point in time."

"We have submitted all that," Elders said. "We're doing exactly what the city wants."

Elders said it is also a possibility that Lowe's will move next door to the new Super Wal-Mart.

And for those inquiring about the exact location, it is marked with a Wal-Mart sign.

"We went with that location because that is the direction the city is going with their expansion," Elders said. "We're real glad to go out that way and we're always glad to be a big part of the community."

As for the current Wal-Mart building, Elders said it will either be leased or sold.

"There's a couple ways to do that," Elders said. "We can put a wall down the middle making two 50,000-square-foot buildings or we'll lease the whole thing."

Elders also said a lot of people have asked about a Holiday Connection.

"But I haven't heard anything in that direction," he said.

Elders said they are looking forward to the move and are very excited about working closely with Warsaw.

Noffsinger refused to confirm any plans for the new Super Wal-Mart store.

Noffsinger did say he has been talking with engineers, but is unsure of any plans Wal-Mart has to build on Ind. 15N and U.S. 30.
