Fall River? Where’s that?

It’s in Bristol County, in Massachusetts. It also happens to be the city of my birth. Today, I am a 30-year resident of Warsaw.

What’s the connection?

Fall River is in the national news for the first time in my octogenarian memory. It became eligible for notoriety due to demonstrably Nazi-inspired desecration of its Jewish cemetery.

As a first-generation son of a Portuguese Catholic immigrant father, I enjoyed the warm friendship of my Jewish neighbors and shared meals at their Kosher tables.

We shared our ethnic differences with all of our immigrant neighbors from Italy, Poland, France and Syria. Intermarriages were common. I have relatives in all of the above origins.

Now, how soon do you think it will be before the national news media will lead their headlines with, “Warsaw, Indiana, Experiences Terrorist Anti-Christian Attack?”
