NAPPANEE - A Wakarusa man was killed Monday in a one-car accident near Nappanee.
Garry D. Beard, 33, was ejected from his car in the 11:10 a.m. accident on Elkhart CR 3, south of Elkhart CR 52, one-half mile north of Nappanee. He suffered massive head, chest and internal injuries.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, Beard was southbound on CR 3 when his vehicle went left of center. Beard apparently overcorrected and slid into a snow embankment. The car then became airborne and struck a tree on the driver's side.
Police said Beard was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected upon impact.
Assisting the ISP at the scene were officers with the Nappanee Police Department.
