This year, the Wagon Wheel celebrates its own Independence, in a sense. Becoming a not-for-profit was a huge step in the process.
On May 19, the theater celebrates Memorial Day style with the USO Liberty Bells in concert at 8 p.m.
The USO Liberty Bells are part of an American tradition that goes back nearly 70 years to its beginnings in the muddy camp shows of the South Pacific. Today, the pride and passion that fueled that early music lives on through the USO Liberty Bells, a talented troupe of professional men and women with extensive credits singing, dancing, and performing in Broadway and off-Broadway productions as well as in numerous national and regional theater venues.
Members of the troupe have starred and performed on Broadway in “Spiderman: Turn off the Dark,” “Les Miserables,” “Hairspray,” “The Sound of Music,” “Hugh Jackman on Broadway” and “Cirque de Soleil.”
In signature patriotic favorites including “God Bless America” and the Military Salute, their harmonies, solo performances, dancing, and array of costumes bring cheering audiences to their feet in music spanning seven decades from big band to swing to classic rock, from the Andrews sisters and Aretha Franklin to Carrie Underwood and Adele.
Tickets are $30 and are on sale now by calling the Wagon Wheel Theatre box office or by visiting wagonwheeltheatre.org All proceeds benefit the Wagon Wheel Theatre Inc., a not-for-profit organization.
