WABASH - After capturing more 2006 Tony Awards than any other musical and having a successful run on Broadway, "The Drowsy Chaperone" is now on national tour.

Presented by Wabash Valley Music, the hit play will go on stage in the Ford Theater Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"The Drowsy Chaperone" is a show-within-a-show that begins as the main character, a shut-in and musical theater addict known simply as "Man in Chair," attempts to lighten his mood by playing a record of his favorite musical. His dreary apartment magically transforms into a glorious Broadway set complete with seashell footlights, painted backdrops and exaggerated costumes.

As the record plays on, Man in Chair becomes an observer to the story of a lead showgirl trying to give up a successful act in order to become the wife of an oil tycoon, much to the disappointment of her deeply indebted producer. From there, a humorous cast of characters ranging from gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, to a bumbling Latin playboy swell onto the stage.

While the story unfolds, Man in Chair is torn between his desire to absorb every detail and his need to insert his own personal footnotes. He continuously brings the audience in and out of the fantasy as his frequent outbursts reveal more and more of his personal life - until the record ends, leaving him alone again in his apartment.Tickets for this show are $20, $35 and $45, with a half-price discount for youth through high school. All tickets may be purchased at the box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling 260-563-1102, visiting www.honeywellcenter.org or by dialing *tix from your Centennial Wireless phone.
