An armed robbery in Wabash and an attempted robbery in Syracuse Wednesday, although similar, do not appear to be related, according to law enforcement officials.
Around 3:48 a.m. Wednesday, a pair of suspects attempted an armed robbery at McDonald's at 902 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. According to the Syracuse Police Department, when officers arrived at the scene, they learned that two Hispanic males tried to follow an employee into the restaurant as she was reporting for work. The employee closed and locked the door behind her when she entered. The men were wearing dark clothing and white bandannas. When they could not get in the door, one of the suspects brandished a handgun, but then the men ran from the business, heading south. K-9 units followed a track left by the men but were not able to find them.
Around 1:09 a.m. Wednesday, two men entered the Lagro Junction, an all-night convenience store near Wabash, showed a gun and demanded money from the clerk. Dressed in handkerchiefs, sunglasses, hats and dark-colored hooded sweatshirts, the men took an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and personal items as well as an undisclosed amount of pre-paid telephone cards. After taking the items, the men left the convenience store on foot.
Both incidents remain under investigation in Wabash and Kosciusko Counties.
The Syracuse Police were assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Winona Lake Police Department.
