PACKERTON - A Wabash man was treated at a local hospital and released Saturday after accidentally shooting himself in the finger.

Anthony E. Griffin, 32, was target shooting at a friend's property on East CR 800S when the incident occurred.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was notified of the incident at 11:42 a.m. Saturday when Griffin was brought to the emergency room of Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.

Griffin reportedly was unfamiliar with the 9-mm automatic rifle he was shooting. He told police he was trying to cock the weapon and had his finger over the end of the barrel when the gun discharged. The bullet went through Griffin's left index finger. Hospital officials said Griffin underwent surgery before being released.
