Editor, Times-Union: This election is one of the most exciting and intense in recent memory. Most people are wondering who the next president, next governor, next whoever is going to be. However, I tend to focus more on the local races because these are the people who are closest to you and who can be the ones that can make a bigger impact on your daily life than who is sitting in the Oval Office. To me, the person I am most excited about voting for is Curt Nisly in the 22nd District state representative race. Nisly has demonstrated he is willing to vote against bad ideas. If it infringed on the life of even one Hoosier, Curt Nisly was against it. When it was proposed to raise gas taxes this year, Nisly was against it because raising taxes should be the last resort for paying for any government spending, and the proposed tax increase was not even guaranteed to go for roads. When it was discussed to repeal the common construction wage, Nisly was against it because it created new red tape where only a few large construction companies can afford to bid on contracts. When regulations were discussed that mandated the HPV vaccine and vaccines for hospital workers, Curt was against it because politicians should not mandate who should be vaccinated. That decision should be left to doctors and patients. When regulations were discussed over e-Liquids and vaping being sold in Indiana stores, Nisly was against this legislation because it gave exclusive production rights to a privileged few. Nisly campaigned to limit government and increase personal freedom for Hoosiers, and he has done exactly that. I want a person who will give greater freedom to all Hoosiers, not to a select few because there is no freedom unless it’s given to all. I hope that all of you will join me in voting for Nisly on Nov. 8. Gary Eppenbaugh Warsaw, via email
