Vote Libertarian

Editor, Times-Union:

With the election rapidly approaching, I think we need to consider seriously who we are going to vote for. I have been listening to what the candidates are saying about each other and I don't know why anyone would want to vote for any of them.

I don't know about other people, but I got tired of voting for the lesser of two evils years ago. It is very upsetting to me to see our great Constitution being ignored by the people we elect to uphold it. We put these people in office and they spend their term figuring out new ways to take your paycheck. They have made tax collectors out of every small and large business in this country. To accomplish this, they have required these businesses to buy a license.

The two major parties will not permit a choice of "none of the above" on the ballot, and they go to great measures to keep third parties off the ballot. It is depressing to me to think about what we are leaving for our children and grandchildren.

If we continue the way we are headed, we will leave them a worthless piece of scrap paper for a Constitution and a government no longer "of, by, and for the people." They will go to great lengths to convince you that you are throwing away your vote when you vote a third party.

I have been convinced for years that I am throwing away my vote when I vote for either of the two major parties. It will take years to straighten out the mess the two parties have got this government in and we should start know.

I, personally vote Libertarian. Libertarians believe we are capable and intelligent enough to run our own lives without government interference. Government has its purpose, but telling a club owner's patrons they can't smoke isn't one of them. Telling a business owner he has to buy a license so he can collect taxes for the government isn't one of them. Remember, what you let government do to your neighbor, you also let it do to you and it might not be in a way you like.

One thing that just popped in my mind is garage sales. How long will it be before you have to buy a permit and collect sales taxes? Never in a libertarian government.
