Marlin Stutzman is a conservative Hoosier who grew up on a farm in Northeast Indiana. Growing up on a farm taught him the values of hard work and personal responsibility. He is neither a lawyer nor a Washington lobbyist.
Marlin has stood the test often in the Indiana Statehouse against the way the wind was blowing. In 2006 he co-authored and helped to pass the first pro-life legislation in Indiana in a dozen years. Four times Marlin has authored and co-authored the Traditional Marriage Amendment bill in Indiana - twice in the Indiana House of Reps, and twice in the Indiana State Senate.
I have seen Marlin's Christian faith in action as I spoke with him about the spiritual war we are in at a recent fundraiser. He told me he needed our prayers because of this very war. I hasten to say that we need Christian men and women of integrity in Washington who are willing to admit this - that we are in a spiritual battle and that we cannot handle this on our own. In speaking with Marlin on this ever so briefly it was an indication to me that he knows he is not all powerful, like some in Washington seem to think they are, but that he must rely on a power higher than himself - Jesus Christ.
I know many Hoosiers are looking back to the years of Dan Coats as Senator. I liked Dan Coats when he was in office and supported him for the most part. There were a few pieces of legislation and court nominees, however, that Mr. Coats supported for which I strongly question him on. He supported the Brady Bill which strongly limits the authority of the 2nd Amendment. He also helped to nominate Sonia Sotomayor who has adamant pro-abortion views and a strong tendency toward judicial activism to the Federal Bench, which eventually landed her as a Supreme Court Justice. Likewise, he voted for the nomination of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, another liberal member of the Court. Coats himself has made the following statement as a reason for these votes, "respecting national electoral results by granting the president latitude in selecting nominees for the bench." We simply cannot afford this kind of relativism in Washington. Marlin Stutzman will bring higher standards to Washington - not standards of relativism, but standards of truth without wavering.
Brad Ellsworth, the lone democrat in this Senate race, has an A rating from the NRA and he will probably have their support this fall. Coats does not have their support. Stutzman is the only candidate to have an A+ rating from the NRA. I personally believe that Marlin Stutzman is the only candidate who can beat Brad Ellsworth in the general election.
Once again, Marlin Stutzman has demonstrated a tenacity to stand for what he believes even if the wind is blowing in a different direction. He is experienced and qualified and will represent Hoosiers well. Vote Marlin Stutzman for senator!
