Editor, Times-Union: I have had the pleasure of working with Retha Hicks, the clerk-treasurer of Winona Lake for 11 years, and inform the citizens of Winona Lake as to how fortunate they are to have elected one of the best clerk-treasurers in the State of Indiana. I have watched Retha as she worked endlessly, learning and growing so that she can better serve you. She has demonstrated both professionalism and a maturity that far exceeds many of her counter parts throughout the state at the clerk-treasurer functions. You should be proud to have a clerk-treasurer with Retha’s skills and knowledge handling your finances. I have also spent time working with your town council, and I have watched how Retha has interacted with them as your clerk-treasurer. She has proven to me that she has the skills and knowledge to assist them with the direction of the community. Having served as an elected official myself, I am aware how hard it is to continue to do what is right when it everyone is against you. I have watched Retha the past couple of years face this same dilemma, and have witnessed the growth and development of a woman who is determined to continue to speak her mind and do what is right even if it hurts her politically and personally. You can rest assured she is on your side and is protecting your money with all the vigor possible. I have had the opportunity to train many of the Indiana clerk-treasurers, and I believe that I can state with confidence that Retha is the best qualified candidate.
