I am writing in response to the three letters to the editor on Aug. 19. One in regards to the WCHS volleyball coach and the other two from Wawasee.
I can relate to these articles because I, too, have a daughter who is an upperclassman who has played volleyball for five years, goes to expensive summer camps every year and plays on a travel team. Not to mention that she earned the Tiger Leadership Award last year. And yet was cut from the team this year while a girl that hasn't played for three years made the team and some of the sophomore girls that made varsity should have stayed on JV. My daughter was crushed, vowing to never play volleyball again. But, she loves the game. So, she came around and has decided that she will still tryout again next year, still go to the summer camp, still play on the coach's travel team (if he will have her) and play on another league during the school season. She also intends to go to the games and support the other girls.
I have a great respect for my daughter. She kept her head held high and handled the situation much better than her mother would have.
To the DeGood family, I couldn't have said it any better. Wawasee isn't the only school that it's happening in.
To Kendra, I'm sorry that you weren't given a fair chance and know that what you were doing instead of tryouts will not go unnoticed - if not by anyone in the school system, by Him.
