County commissioners appointed two new members to the Convention, Recreation and Visitors Commission Tuesday.
Reg Smith and John Hall replace Faye Medlock and Deb Wiggins, who are leaving the board after serving four years.
Commissioner Ron Truex questioned whether or not Hall would be able to regularly attend the meetings because Hall travels a lot.
Wiggins said Hall would be available, especially since the commission will probably meet on a quarterly basis beginning in 2007.
The commission oversees the expenditure of innkeeper tax revenues. The money is granted to non-profit organization events and activities that draw visitors to the county.
The Convention Visitors Bureau receives the lion's share of the levy. The CVB maintains the Visitor's Center, a professional staff, a Web site about county events, lodging and points of interest and programs to draw visitors. Mary Kittrell is the CVB executive director.
The CVB budget is overseen by the commission and given final approval by the county council.
The council council has appointed four commission members: John Elliott, Jon Sroufe, Joy McCarthy-Sessing and Jan Carter. David Taylor is the Warsaw city council appointee.
Jeff Harding, who lives at Chapman Lake in Highland Park, approached the board about developing an ordinance regarding trucks with three axles on roads less than 20 feet wide.
"I'm not anti-development or anti-contractor," he said, explaining that a house is being renovated near his home.
"The house will be beautiful when it's finished and increase the value of my property.
"But the tri-axles have to make two 90-degree turns on roads 12 feet wide. They're turning the road surface to chunks of asphalt. There are ruts two feet deep and they're tearing up the edge of the road," Harding said.
The board also:
Approved a stop sign at the "T" intersection of CRs 700W and 900S.
Were reminded of the meeting with all taxing entities tonight at 7 p.m. in the Justice Building. Indiana Association of Cities and Towns' "Hometown Matters" initiative will be discussed along with other issues regarding taxation.
