One of the teens involved in an automobile accident July 21 is still in serious condition, according to her mother, Denice Oprea.
"It's seriously serious," Denice said Friday afternoon. "She's in horrific pain."
Jada Oprea, 15, of Clearwater, Fla., is in the burn unit at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. Since the accident Friday on County Farm Road, she has had three surgeries and more are expected. Initially, Jada was incorrectly identified as Jada Marshal of Warsaw. Jada was in Warsaw visiting. Denice said even the hospital initially had her registered under the incorrect name.
Jada can not have visitors, but Denice said she can receive cards or letters. Flowers and balloons are not permitted. "She needs all the support she can receive at this time," Denice said.
While Jada is in the burn unit, Denice, of Clearwater, Fla., is staying at the Children's Hope Hospital, in room five. Her telephone number is 260-459-8550.
The other victims of the accident, Jamie Albert, 16, and Kacie Wallace 14, both of Warsaw, are doing fine, Denice said.
According to the previous Times-Union story published Monday, the three teens were injured when the car they were riding in rolled over on County Farm Road near Warsaw.
Oprea was injured when she was thrown from the 1991 Toyota and the vehicle rolled rolled on top of her around 10:35 p.m. Friday. Oprea was freed from under the car and then airlifted to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, by the Lutheran Air Ambulance. She was later transported to the St. Joseph burn unit.
Albert, the driver of the vehicle, suffered moderate injures. Wallace was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital, also for moderate injuries.
According to the report from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Albert was driving the Toyota southbound on County Farm Road near CR 400S when she tried to pass another vehicle. Albert saw a northbound car and swerved off the road allegedly, rolling over several times.
