Virginia W. Riley Longenecker, 99, Warsaw, passed away Sept. 24, 2014, at Grace Village Retirement Community where she resided the last 16 years. She was born April 9, 1915, in Akron to Lloyd and Effie Heeter Riley. On Aug. 4, 1956, in Nappanee she married Glen Longenecker, who died June 21, 1976. She was a beloved teacher to generations of local students, teaching at Akron, Leesburg and Lincoln Elementary among others. She treasured the memories of her students and derived great joy from keeping up with their lives. She was a devoted member of the Warsaw First United Methodist Church, where she spent many years in faithful service. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and she was involved in the Warsaw community. Surviving are two nieces, Marcia (and spouse James “Andy”) McCafferty, Mountain View, Calif., and Judith Tremaine, Palmetto, Fla.; a nephew, Phillip (and spouse Nancy) Booher, Indianapolis; a stepgrandson, Brian (and spouse Barb) Neer, West Lafayette. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Riley; two sisters, Dora Booher and Josephine Trefz; and two step-grandsons, Brent and Bruce Neer.
