YORKTOWN – Virginia L. Stinson Hathaway, 84, went home to be with the Lord Aug. 14, 2016, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1932, in Anderson, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel Stinson. On June 19, 1953, she married Henry Dale Hathaway, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Anderson High School in 1950 and she retired from Indiana Bell after 30 years of service. After retirement she volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years. She was part of the church family at Northside Church of The Nazarene.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was an avid Pacers fan, passionate about politics and helping others. She was living with her daughter, Laura, and grandchildren, Jessica and Kara.
Surviving are her sister, Mary Jo Everett; five children: Linda (and spouse Bobby) Carr, Bruce Hathaway, Kathy (and spouse Troy) Peavler, Laura Gruwell and David (and spouse Melissa) Hathaway; 15 grandchildren: Carolyn (and spouse Doug) Hunt, Jennifer Alford, Rob Carr, Christopher (and spouse Elizabeth) Hathaway, Krystal (and spouse John) Hathaway, Conner Hathaway, Jill and Jenna (and spouse Bill) Roysden, Jeff (and spouse Crystal) Gruwel, Jamie (and spouse Kelli) Gruwell, Justin (and spouse Nicole) Gruwell, Jessica Gruwell, Nicholas Dorroh, Shelby and Eden Hathaway; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a companion, Denver Ransom; a daughter, Cindy Arey; and a sister, Ruth Ann Stinson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and hour prior to the service Friday at the mortuary.
