NAPPANEE - Virgie E. Umbaugh, 94, formerly of 25747 CR 52, Nappanee, died at 11:55 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009, in LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee.
She was born March 28, 1915, in Whitley County, to Sanford and Clara Marquardt Gall. On Dec. 21, 1932, in Warsaw, she married Harold Lamar Umbaugh, who died June 15, 1983.
A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and a cook at Ozzies and The B&B, Nappanee. She was a member of First Church of God, Nappanee.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Umbaugh, Nappanee; two daughters, Helen (and spouse Loren) Stackhouse, Warsaw, and Linda (and spouse Everett) Maurer, Nappanee; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim Gall, Oswego, and Jake Gall, Elkhart. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with her grandson, the Rev. David Stackhouse officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
