NORTH MANCHESTER - Violet Reba Hartsough, 90, of Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester, died at 5:57 a.m. Jan. 24, 2010, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
She was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Kosciusko County, to Thomas J. and Elsie Circle Poland. On Jan. 9, 1942, she married Daniel R. Hartsough, who died Aug. 31, 1986.
She was a 1938 Sidney High School graduate and a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed yard work and her flower gardens. While most people were contemplating retirement, she decided to get her first job. She loved working at McDonald's and later Dairy Queen, both in North Manchester.
Surviving are a son, John K. (and spouse Ann) Hartsough, North Manchester; six grandchildren: Jay (and spouse Nicole) Rosen, Lafayette; Jon (and spouse Beth) Rosen, North Manchester; Jama (and spouse Gary) Fry, Roanoke; Rebecca Hartsough, Denver, Colo.; Joel Hartsough, Golden, Colo.; and Craig Hartsough, Niles, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren: Jayden and Jayla Rosen, both of Lafayette; Kennedy and Dyson Rosen, both of North Manchester; Gunnar, Leah and Olivia Fry, all of Roanoke; and a son-in-law, James Rosen, Urbana. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Rosen; an infant son, James Duane Hartsough; two brothers, Harold and Delmar Poland; and a sister, Belva Drudge.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester, with the Rev. Kurt Borgmann officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Timbercrest Chapel.
