Violet M. McGowen, 80, of 206 W. Jackson St., Mentone, died at 3:24 p.m. June 8, 2011, in Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw.
She was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Plymouth, to Lavergne Bollman and Minnie Freet. On May 1, 1954, in Plymouth, she married R. Dale McGowen who survives.
She worked at Bendix, South Bend, in the early years where she met her husband, Dale. She was best known for greeting people with her smile at Teel’s Restaurant for 39 years. She graduated from West High in Marshall County in 1949. She was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the M and M’s Home Ec Club, Mentone.
Surviving are three daughters, Terry Hively, Mentone, Sherry (and spouse Stephen Yates), Melbourne, Australia, and Lori Golladay, Colorado City, Colo.; seven grandchildren.; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Floyd, Fred, Marshall, Ralph, and Vernon; and five sisters: Iva, Opal, Retha, Beatrice, and Marjorie.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
