NORTH MANCHESTER - Violet B. Shrider, 90, of North Manchester, died at 9:16 p.m. July 31, 2007, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
She was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Elkhart County, to George W. and Gladys Schoonover Bollman. On Sept. 1, 1940, she married the Rev. Paul F. Shrider, who survives.
She graduated from Madison High School, St. Joseph County, and took a two-year teaching course at Manchester College. Moving to Chicago, she worked part-time as a bus girl at Sears & Roebuck cafeteria. At Bethany Bible School she studied music and other courses that would benefit as she helped her husband in ministry.
Moving to Ohio, she served at a mission point at Dillonvale, Ohio, and at Chippewa Church of the Brethren near Creston, Ohio. In 1948, they moved back to Chicago. They served as weekend pastor of West Branch Church of the Brethren near Foreston, Ill. Following that, she served as co-counselor of the youth of Northern Illinois for the Church of the Brethren. In 1964, they moved to North Manchester and worked at Manchester College and served as part-time pastor of North Webster Church of the Brethren, where she was a member.
She also worked at Manchester College and Timbercrest.
She served in Disaster Response projects in Mississippi and West Virginia.
In 1991, they sold their home and moved to Timbercrest.
Also surviving are a son, Paul L. (and wife Lorna) Shrider, North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. George (Sharon) Spies, Mishawaka; two brothers, Virgil Bollman, Bunker Hill, and C.W. Bollman, Frankfort; three sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Beulah) George, Wakarusa; Mrs. Larry (Lucille) Gygi, Elkhart; and Mrs. Willard (Ruth Ann) Hartman, Syracuse; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Bollman; a sister, Mildred Mae Bollman; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester, with Chaplains Joan Deeter and Barry Belknap and Pastor Bob Wyman officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at Timbercrest Chapel.
