Violet B. Miller Darkwood

NAPPANEE - Violet B. Miller Darkwood, 98, of 453 N. Locke St., Nappanee, died at 8:35 a.m. Oct. 7, 2010, in her residence.

She was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Locke Township, to Jesse and Ida Clouse Pippenger. On June 5, 1932, in Bryon, Ohio, she married Ferril "Fez" Miller, who died Oct. 26, 1979. On Oct. 19, 1982, she married Lloyd Darkwood, who died March 3, 1994.

A lifetime area resident, she graduated from Nappanee High School in 1929. She was a homemaker and co-owner of Clipp Auto Supply. She made and sold ceramics and also taught ceramic classes for many years. She was a member of the Ever Ready Club and Union Center Church of the Brethren, where she had served as a deacon.

Surviving are a son, James A. (and spouse Helen) Miller, Nappanee; a daughter, Carol Leman, Michigan City; two stepdaughters, Waneta Benson, Pennsylvania, and Thelma Snyder, Kansas; a sister, Evelyn (and spouse Harmon) Mitchel, Tennessee; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepson and a brother.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Union Center Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee.

Calling is from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the church.
