WINONA LAKE - by next spring a bakery, a soap manufacturer and a candle shop should be up and running in the Village at Winona, according to Brent Wilcoxson.
Currently, the first couple of rows in the big parking lot along Park Avenue are being removed for room to add six additional shops. Another six shops will be built along the channel.
Wilcoxson, Village at Winona manager, said more parking will be available when the changes are complete.
Work on the building to house the bakery will begin in the next couple of weeks.
Instead of moving existing houses to the Village, however, the new shops will be of new construction.
"Everything will be built new," Wilcoxson said. "We're designing them to be like the rest of the village. Unfortunately, there aren't any homes available to move, like before."
The expansion increases the number of businesses from 15 to about 26.
Currently the Artisan Court Shops include The Crow's Nest, Winona Mercantile, Lakeview Trading Co., Vintage France, Winona Lake Pottery, Warsaw Cut Glass, Panache', Sweet Dreams of Winona, Blue Lion Coffeehouse, Robert Hudson's studio, Canal Street Artists, Blue Heron Artworks, Winona Woods, Whetstone Woodenware, Trailhouse and the Shuttle Shop.
