SYRACUSE — Tippecanoe Valley’s varsity boys basketball team will have a chance to win its first sectional title since 2007 tonight. Facing the six-win Lakeland Lakers Friday night in the second semifinal of Class 3A Sectional 21, the Vikings (19-3) posted a 63-53 victory. Senior Nick Kindig had 25 points and six assists in the win. Also for Valley, sophomore Alex Thacker netted 17 points and junior Tanner Andrews had a 12-point, 11-rebound, three-block game. In the title game, Valley will take on NorthWood (16-6), which dominated Fairfield 71-41 in Friday’s first semifinal. The two teams met back on Dec. 22 in the championship game of the Winning Edge Tournament, played at Tippecanoe Valley, where the host won 59-53. After losing five-straight games, the NorthWood Panthers are on a five-game winning streak. NorthWood is the defending Sectional 21 champion, having defeated Valley 40-35 in the first round of last year’s tournament. Coming into this season’s sectional, Valley’s last postseason win was in 2007, when it won its last title. Following that sectional championship, the Vikings lost their sectional opener five-straight times.
