NORTH MANCHESTER – Vernon R. Schroll, 74, of Warsaw, died at 10:27 a.m. Sept. 19, 2013, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Wabash County to Ross V. and Helen L. Vrooman Schroll, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 8, 1961, he married Beverly A. King, who survives.
He graduated in the class of 1957 from Chester High School, North Manchester. He served from 1957-1960 with the U.S. Navy aboard USS Ranger, declining the opportunity to serve as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.          
Growing up in Chester Township, he attended Servia Christian Church. In the 1960s he served on the Wabash County Sheriff’s Reserve. He enjoyed gardening, sports, I.U. Basketball and Chicago Bears football.
He was a farmer, fertilizer salesman and applicator at Strauss Co., North Manchester, and Ernie’s, Servia. He retired from Syracuse Rubber.
Also surviving are a son, David V. Schroll, Clunette; two daughters, Pamela (and spouse Jon) Fawley and Judy (and spouse Darren Friedman) Stevens, all of North Manchester; two sisters, Patricia (and spouse George) Deeter, and Anita (and spouse Lester) Williams, all of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren: John “Ross” Fawley, Ryan Lee (and spouse Tabitha) Fawley, Tyler M. and Erika M. Stevens; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria, Eliott and Westyn.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut St., North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. A private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Calling will follow services until 3 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester.
