Vernon L. “Bing” Himes, 77, Winona Lake, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Dec. 4, 2013, in his residence. He was born May 25, 1936, in Plymouth, to Russell and Helen Lucas Himes. In 1955 in Warsaw, he married Flora Jean Prater, who preceded him in death. A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he worked as a custodian for Warsaw Community Schools and also for Warsaw Street Department, where he retired. He was a volunteer fireman first class for Warsaw Fire Department from 1964 to 1979. He was a member of Victory Rock Church and a lifetime member of Indiana Volunteer Fireman’s Association and was awarded Volunteer Fireman of the Year Dec. 8, 1972. He also served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. Surviving are three sons; Gary Himes and Terry (and spouse Susan) Himes, all of Warsaw; Tony Himes, Pierceton; four sisters: Sharon McNee, Cindy Conley, Dardnella Yoder, Beverly Moody; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Victory Rock Church, Pierceton, with Pastors Charles Trout and William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
