Verlin Stayer, 84, Warsaw, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Nov. 15, 2014, at his residence. He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Sidney, to Ernest and Lovell Druley Stayer. On Feb. 26, 1978, in Warsaw, he married Janice Sievers, who survives in Warsaw. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the South Bend Carpenter’s Union, Da-Lite Screen, Explorer Van, Coachman Inc. and Schrader’s Automotive. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Warsaw; Pierceton American Legion Post #258; Warsaw Masonic Lodge #73; and Gilliam Bowling Lanes leagues, where he also coached Junior Bowling. Also surviving are three daughters: Linda (and spouse Jerry) Bentele, Leesburg; Cheryl (and spouse Greg) Gearhart, Fulton; and Monda (and spouse Mark) Pherigo, Pierceton; three brothers: Gerald (and spouse Phyllis) Stayer, North Manchester; Frank (and spouse Imogene) Stayer, Kimmel; and Everett (and spouse Dorothy) Stayer, Huntington; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastors Bob and Becky Conelley officiating. Burial is in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with military honors rendered by the Pierceton American Legion Post #258.
