NORTH MANCHESTER - Velma Jean Nicolet, 74, died at 1:30 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008, in The Oaks, Columbia City.

She was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Whitley County, to Glen and Izetta Coy Cearbaugh, who preceded her in death. In 1960, in Allen County, she married David W. Nicolet, who preceded her in death.

A lifetime Whitley County resident, she was a 1952 Columbia City High School graduate and a homemaker. She attended Victory Christian Fellowship, North Manchester.

Surviving are two daughters, Gina (and spouse Ben) Knecht, Columbia City, and Elaine (and spouse Brian) Balke, Silver Lake; a son, Jeff (and spouse Kathy) Nicolet, Plymouth; four grandchildren, Shannon and Sharmon Knecht, and Krista (and spouse Ian) Vaughan and Cody (and spouse Noel) Balke; three great-grandchildren, Dustin and Desirea Davis and Kalell Balke; two brothers, Fred (and spouse Sharon) Cearbaugh, Columbia City, and Richard (and spouse Maxine) Cearbaugh, South Whitley; and two sisters, Patricia (and spouse Donald) Sievers and Carol (and spouse Edward) Hull, all of Columbia City. She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Hull.

Services were at 2 p.m. today at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Tim Morbitzer officiating. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Rochester.
