Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals voted in favor of petitions brought by Bud's Body Shop when it met Thursday in Syracuse Town Hall.
Zoners believe their vote will improve the Chicago - Sycamore streets corner.
Petitioner Mike Slaybaugh, who owns the business with his brother Steve, explained they will build an addition to an existing structure, remove most of the original structure, create more parking and change the entry. When complete, the business will sit 35 feet from the Chicago Street right of way and more than 10-1/2 feet from Sycamore.
Slaybaughs must allow no outside storage and must remove the old buildings within 90 days after they have moved into the new building.
In other action, the board asked Petitioner Nancy Olivares to return to the February meeting with a survey of her property at 200 West Carroll St. so that a variance could be granted on remodeling work, which began in 1997.
The 100- to 150-year-old house is a pre-existing, non-conforming structure on a small lot in the old part of town, which qualifies it for consideration.
The board also discussed what action could be taken on a group of old, unused mobile homes parked at the south end of Sycamore Street. The board is concerned that open doors on some of the mobile homes could pose a health risk, especially to children.
