Vandals Strike Valley High School

Posted

AKRON -ÊThe Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident of vandalism at Tippecanoe Valley High School Monday night.

Custodians arrived at the school Tuesday morning to find baby oil squirted on floors and lockers in the new addition at the school. Vandals also cut wires and tried to steal a new projector in one of the renovated rooms and stole two clocks.

"The major issue we have is the baby oil on the floors," said Kosciusko County Deputy Josh Spangle. He said the new terazza floors are not sealed or waxed as much as older floors in the building so the baby oil discolored the area.

"It appears to be a group (that committed the vandalism)," Spangle said.

Officials currently are in the process of trying to remove the stains by using lime. The hallway affected is temporarily closed so the lime can be left on the floors.

At least 20 people have been questioned in the incident, but no arrests have been made.

"We have gotten a couple of Crime Stoppers tips," said Spangle. "We are getting closer. We have narrowed (the list of suspects) down to four or five.

"Now we are trying to sort through the rumors."

Once the vandals are found, the school plans to take action to suspend or expel them if they are students. They also face vandalism charges from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
