Vandals Hit Warrior Field

Posted

SYRACUSE - Sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, vandals left their mark on Wawasee Community Schools property.

According to Wawasee Coordinator of Support Services Bob Lahrman Friday afternoon, the unknown person(s) broke into school buses and took five dry chemical fire extinguishers sometime during the nine-hour period.

With the extinguishers, the suspect(s) sprayed "satanic" markings along the grass football field. The markings included the letters TING ("There Is No God") and upside-down crosses.

Lahrman said it is unknown if the chemical will affect the growth of the grass.

The suspect(s) then broke into the concession stands, where they expelled more fire extinguisher chemical. After using up all the chemical, the assailant(s) threw the extinguishers from the top of the stadium seats onto the top of the concession stands. Soft drink bottles also were spilled everywhere inside the concession stand.

At some point, Lahrman said, the suspects then broke into the tennis storage room. Approximately 700 tennis balls were taken out of the room and put into one of the buses.

A total damage estimate was not available as of Friday afternoon.

Lahrman was not aware of any suspects or leads in the matter. The Syracuse Police Department is still investigating the matter, according to a SPD spokesman who declined to comment further on the matter.
