Posted

An estimated $45,000 in damage was caused by vandals Monday night at Dalton Monofill Dump, near Warsaw.

The damage was discovered by Dave Carey, owner of Dave Carey Excavating & Trucking, Warsaw, when he went to the site on CR 250S, south of Ind. 25, about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Someone apparently took a dump truck for a joyride around the dump before destroying it with an excavator.

The cab to the dump truck was demolished, there also was damage to the undercarriage, and there was frame damage and possible hydraulic damage to the excavator. Also, a tilt top trailer had damage to the hitch, frame and airhoses. Damage to the equipment was estimated at $25,000, $12,000 and $8,000, respectively.

Vehicles parked there that are owned by G&G Hauling & Excavating, West CR 100N, Warsaw, also were damaged, including destruction of a heavy-duty battery and electric wires. Damage to G&G equipment was estimated at $300.

The matter is being investigated by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
