AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley answered the bell Friday night against Three Rivers Conference rival Rochester. In the annual battle for the Bell Trophy, the Vikings scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and pulled away from the visiting Zebras for a 27-6 victory. With the win, Valley improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the TRC standings. The Vikings are now the only undefeated team in the conference, as Rochester and North Miami both fell to 4-1 in league play. Whitko topped North Miami 13-10. In the win over Rochester, Ben Shriver completed 10 of 13 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown. Tanner Andrews caught six passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. Justin Gunter rushed 16 times for 81 yards, while Chris Torpy carried the ball 15 times for 79 yards and touchdown. For Rochester, Jon O’Dell completed 13 of 34 passes for 213 yards. He threw two interceptions, both of which were picked off by the Vikings’ Dan Miller. Valley will travel to North Miami Friday for a key TRC matchup.
SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Wildcats managed just 161 yards of offense Friday but were able to beat North Miami 13-10 and knock the visiting Warriors from the list of Three Rivers Conference unbeatens. Trailing 10-6 in the fourth quarter, Whitko scored the game-winning touchdown on a 7-yard run by Connor Stouder. Stouder’s score capped a 15-play, 71-yard drive. With the win, Whitko improved to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the TRC, while North Miami fell to 5-2 and 4-1. Tanner Hughes led Whikto with 86 yards on 18 carries, while Trace Killian carried the ball six times for 41 yards. Whitko’s Alex Stoddard completed 2 of 5 passes for 24 yards. The Wildcats travel to Rochester Friday, and then finish the regular season Oct. 12 at Tippecanoe Valley.
LAKEVILLE – The Triton Trojans scored their first win of the season Friday night, beating Northern State Conferene host LaVille 21-10. With the victory, Triton is now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the NSC. The Lancers fell to 1-6 and 0-5. Triton trailed 10-7 at halftime, and then scored a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters. Triton’s Bryson Mosier completed 10 of 21 passes for 152 yards and also carried the ball 13 times for 106 yards. Teammate Cody Shively rushed 15 times for 54 yards. Caleb Dudeck led LaVille’s offense with 161 yards on 26 carries. Triton is in action again Friday when it hosts Knox.
