Valley student reportedly wanted to shoot student, vice principalThe Tippecanoe Valley High School student who was arrested Tuesday for making threats allegedly wanted to shoot at least one other student and the vice principal at the school in Akron, court documents say.
David E. Helton, 18, of 4789 W. CR 950S, Silver Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:51 a.m. Tuesday on a preliminary charge of disorderly conduct. Court documents filed Wednesday now list the charges against him as two counts of intimidation, level 6 felonies; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
His bond was set at $20,000 surety and $250 cash. He also must surrender any firearms he has to law enforcement.
A no contact order also was issued Wednesday.
Court documents state that on Monday, Fulton County Sheriff’s Department became aware that a student was making threats of violence to students and faculty at the school.
County deputies reported Helton had made threats over Facebook Messenger intending to shoot students at the school and the vice principal. The threats caused a disruption to the students and school faculty.
Officers spoke with Helton, who admitted that from December through Sunday he threatened to shoot a student and the vice principal.
A news release issued Tuesday by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office stated Sheriff Kyle P. Dukes, county deputies and Mentone Police met with school administrators early Tuesday. After detectives spoke with several students and parents, it was determined that the immediate threat was resolved.
A news release from the school system said that quick work by police and cooperation from the school helped eliminate any risk.
