AKRON - The Tippecanoe Valley School Board decided Thursday to advertise for architects interested in designing a bus garage.
Gary Turner, R.W. Clinton & Associates, outlined building options ranging from a 5,480-square-foot bus garage to 7,000 square feet, with a price tag of $274,000 to $525,000, depending on options used for the interior of the facility. Turner said architectural fees, based on square footage, would be $30,000 to $42,000.
Some board members expressed a desire to check with local builders before proceeding with the project. Several architects will be chosen from those who respond, to be interviewed by the board.
The project will be funded by allocations from the capital projects fund. Since no bonds will be issued, a public hearing and remonstrance period won't be required.
Turner said timing is an important consideration for the project. He estimated if started now, the building will be ready for occupancy by May 1998. That date coincides with the time the existing bus garage will need to be vacated to free up space for the Mentone Elementary School building project.
The next regular meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. June 9.
