Posted
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley School Board met at Tippecanoe Valley High School Monday night and heard updates on what has been happening at the school.
Superintendent Brett Boggs started the regular board meeting and recognized multiple faulty members for their outstanding commitment to the school corporation. Inga Omondi, an instructional coach at Akron Elementary, received the TVSC World Class Teacher Award. Aggie Prater, instructional assistant at Mentone Elementary School, and Matt Cavender, head custodian at Burket Educational Center, both received the Pillar Award for Outstanding Support Staff. Other staff members being recognized were Shelly Engle, Jeff Shriver, Wes Backus and TVHS Principal Dr. Michael Bendicsen.
Shriver and Backus had the archery team present. The students in the club introduced themselves, then demonstrated their archery skills. The team members shot off five arrows, as they would in a competition.
Two parents addressed the board in the items from visitors section. The two mothers both told the board that they were unhappy with Bendicsen. One said that Bendicsen hung up the phone on her, and the other said he told her to leave his office. Both claimed that their children were receiving unfair treatment. The board said they would discuss the issue and get back to them soon.
In other news, contracts were approved for the Akron Elementary School project. Multiple contractors’ bids were accepted, including those from Kinder & Sons, Fort Wayne Roofing, Hamilton Hunter, J.W. Werntz, Anthony Anderson Co., Interior Finishes, C&T Design, Shambaugh & Son, A. Hattersly & Sons and D&D Electric.
