MENTONE - Receiving only one response the first time around, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board Monday approved a motion to readvertise a request for proposals for guaranteed energy savings for the Burket Educational Center.
Superintendent Brett Boggs said that at the June school board meeting, the board approved a request to advertise for proposals. The request was advertised in two local newspapers June 14 and 23, with submission of proposals due July 23. Although previous interest was shown by several energy savings contractors, Valley received only one response. Boggs said he wanted to readvertise for proposals with a 60-day timeline to receive them in hopes of receiving more proposals.
"I'm pretty confident if we readvertise, we'll get multiple proposals this time," Boggs said.
Boggs said he will run the second advertisement Aug. 25. Proposals will need to be submitted Oct. 27, with a proposal selected by the board in November. The proposal will be awarded in December.
Boggs informed the board the school district recently received a letter from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission and the national commission for the North Central Association, Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.
The letter confirms the AdvancED Accreditation Commission unanimously approved District Accreditation for the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. Boggs said the approval was based on the recommendation of the Quality Assurance Review Team that conducted an on-site evaluation of the school corporation during the second semester of the 2007-08 school year.
The accreditation is for five years beginning June 2008.
Thanks to blood donors, Tippecanoe Valley High School will receive a new computer.
Monday, the school board accepted a Red Cross donation of $1,000 to purchase a computer.
During the 2007-08 school year, the TVHS student government hosted three blood drives. Goals were set and met at each drive. Because of the volume of blood donated by students and community members, Boggs said TVHS earned the right to be in a drawing for a computer.
The Red Cross notified Valley the school was the lucky recipient of a new computer, donating a $1,000 gift card from Best Buy for the purchase of a computer.
