AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. raised $14,364.51 for Riley Hospital for Children through the Kids Caring & Sharing program.
The Kids Caring and Sharping program is a statewide philanthropy program with schools, said Susan C. Miles, officer for the Kids Caring & Sharing program. Each year, the program has a goal for schools to raise $1 per student to be named a Red Wagon School.
Beyond that, the schools could sponsor a wagon, which is the main mode of transportation at the hospital, Miles said. For a gift of $2,500, a school can have a license plate made with their school’s name on the back. A duplicate plate is given for display at the school.
Each school in the TVSC sponsored a wagon, she said.
“Nobody’s ever done that before,” Miles said.
Half of the money raised will go to Kosciusko County Community Foundation for families who have to travel to Riley’s and the other half will go direct to the hospital.
