Valley Leads Roundup With Convincing Win Over Pioneer

AKRON — Plating seven runs in the first inning, the Tippecanoe Valley baseball team didn’t have much trouble at home against Pioneer Monday night, winning 15-5 in five innings.
Signing his national letter of intent to play baseball at Purdue University Monday morning, Tippecanoe Valley senior Tanner Andrews then dominated on the field, getting the win, while also going 4 for 4 with two doubles, two stolen bases and three RBIs.
Also in the rout, Isaac Shewman was 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, Jarred Littlejohn was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Luke Helton was 2 for 3 with a solo home run.
Valley hosts Peru Wednesday.

Monday in Bourbon
Opening Northern State Conference play at home against Knox Monday, the Triton softball team won 15-5 in six innings. Pounding out 18 hits, Mallorie Jennings and Krystal Sellers each had four for the Lady Trojans, with Sellers also getting four RBIs. Jennings was also the winning pitcher, going all six innings, striking out six. The 5-1 Lady Trojans are back in NSC action Wednesday at John Glenn.

Hosting Carroll Monday night, the Whitko softball team fell 6-1. In defeat, Kennedy Krull had two hits and Whitney Marsh hit a double. Up next for Whitko is another home game tonight against Huntington North.

GIRLS TENNIS
Monday in Bourbon
Despite getting just three of the five matches in because of rain, the Triton girls tennis team still got the home win over Rochester Monday. With rain cutting the match short, Triton got the three points needed for the win, improving to 3-1 on the year with the 3-0 victory. Finishing before the rain began, Triton got a 6-0, 6-0 win from the No. 1 doubles team of Holly Stogsdill and Carrie Slabaugh, with the No. 2 duo of Cassie Irons and Michal Scherer-Berry winning 6-3, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Kylie Mason got a quick win, 6-0, 6-1. Triton won the opening set at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, and the matches may be completed at a later date. Triton is at home again today against Whitko.

The Manchester boys track and field team finished sixth in the B Division of Saturday’s Busco Relays. Host Churubusco won the division with 185 points, followed by Wabash’s 88.25 in second, while Manchester tallied 60.75. For Manchester, Colin McNeeley (100, 11.53) and Brodi Carter (110 Hurdles, 16.19) each posted second-place finishes. Manchester will be at Oak Hill Thursday.
