Valley Girls Mold Win Vs. Clay

MENTONE - Rhonda Doud scored 18 points as the Vikings picked up an overtime win on Saturday. Valley defeated South Bend Clay 51-49 after outscoring the Colonials 10-8 in the extra period.

Valley led by five heading into the fourth quarter but Clay got hot and pulled even with the Vikings. In the overtime period, four players scored for the Vikings to get the win.

Andria Parker added 12 points and 14 boards for Valley and Brandi Fisher had nine points.

Valley (7-11) will host Whitko on Saturday.

Wawasee 94.8, East Noble 87.9

At Syracuse, it was the same story for the Wawasee Warriors on Monday as they were hampered by injuries but still came out ahead with a big win.

Wawasee was without Christa Olson, but Darcy Replogle returned for her first competition of the year. Katie Brown was also suffering from an injury but still competed.

Replogle returned to win the floor with a score of 9.1. She ended third in the all-around. Angie Beer took first in the vault and the bars to win the all-around.

In junior varsity action, Wawasee won 71.2-55.0.

Wawasee (5-2) will host DeKalb on Thursday.

• Boys Basketball

Cornerstone 60, LCA 48

LCA lost to Cornerstone on Saturday in a boys basketball matchup.

Ryan Andrew scored 17 points and Nate Pletcher added 16 for the Cougars. Tim Buchholz scored six points and Tyler Silveus had four. Justin Hartman scored three points and Brian Hodorek scored two.

In junior varsity action, Cornerstone beat LCA 59-23. Matheus Virgilio scored 12 points while Hodorek had seven. Buchholz added four points.

LCA will play Grace Brethren on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Frosh: Valley At Whitko Invite

At South Whitley, Tippecanoe Valley won the Whitko Invitational on Saturday by winning twice.

In the first game, Valley beat Churubusco 74-25. The Vikings jumped out to a 33-4 lead after the first quarter. Brian Love scored 15 points to lead Valley. Andy Martin had 12 points and Cody New scored nine points. Richie Swanson and Derek Smith each scored eight points.

In the championship, Valley beat Whitko 49-38. Cody New scored 12 points with six rebounds and four assists. Andy Martin had 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Valley (11-5) won its second tournament championship. The Vikings will be at North Miami today.

Boys: Valley 54, North Miami 34

At Denver, Cody New lit up North Miami for 28 points, nine rebounds and five steals as the Vikings won easily on Monday.

Andy Martin added seven points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists. Darren Alber scored six points and grabbed five rebounds.

Valley (12-5) will be at CMA on Monday.

Frosh: Warsaw 43, Rochester 40

At Rochester, Trent Martin scored 13 points and had five assists as Warsaw narrowly defeated Rochester on Monday.

Josh Buck scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Tigers.

In B-team action, Rochester beat Warsaw 23-18. Nick Perkins had eight points and 10 rebounds for Warsaw. The B team is now 9-4 on the year.

Warsaw (13-3) will host Wawasee on Thursday.
