Valley Girls 3-1 In Three Rivers Conference

ROCHESTER - Five players scored between eight and 14 points as the Tippecanoe Valley girls' basketball team pummeled winless Rochester 71-46 Monday evening.

The win pulled Valley up to .500 at 7-7. The Vikings have won three in a row and five of their last seven.

Rochester dropped to 0-14.

Kara Tucker led the Vikings with 14 points, and Bonnie Bickel and Amy Nellans added 11 each. Brooke Fisher scored nine, and Rhonda Doud scored eight.

Tucker also dished out eight assists and had three steals. Fisher added 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals to her 11 points.

Valley won the junior varsity game 38-32. Jenny Sanders scored eight and Jenny Day seven for the Vikings. Tiffany Cunningham grabbed eight rebounds.

Valley, 3-1 in the Three Rivers Conference, hosts Manchester on Thursday.

Warsaw 37, Plymouth 32

At Plymouth, the Warsaw Tiger wrestlers dominated the middle-weight classes en route to their Monday win.

The Tigers won every match between the 135 and 171 weight classes, including Aaron Banks (135), Luke Chabot (140), Matt Zellers (145), Carl Hartwell (152), Chris Wilson (160) and Steve Fribley (171).

Other Tigers who won matches included Adam Harter (112), Greg Patrick (119) and Robbie Boley (125).

Tigers who won junior varsity matches included Jay Hammer (125), Joe Wildman (130), Isaac Perry (152) and Marvin Farmer (171).

On Saturday, the Warsaw wrestling team finished with a 1-2 record in the Culver Military Academy tournament.

The Tigers beat Culver Military Academy 54-23. They lost to Fremont 51-21 and lost to Lake Central 36-35.

Two Tigers won all three matches. Harter (119 pounds) and Boley each finished the day with 3-0 records.

Warsaw competes in the NLC Championships at Goshen on Saturday.

At Elkhart, the Wawasee wrestling team went 3-2 in Saturday's NIC Super Dual.

The Warriors beat South Bend St. Joe's 63-7, beat Washington 47-26 and beat LaSalle 66-12. The Warriors lost to Penn 33-31 and lost to Elkhart Memorial 39-21.

Wawasee's Kevin A. Carr (125), Darrell Carr (135) and Shaun Belin (152) each finished the day with 5-0 records. Troy Hendricks (125) went 3-0.

The Warrior junior varsity team went 2-3 on the day. They beat South Bend St. Joe's 60-12 and beat LaSalle 54-6. They lost to Penn 52-18, lost to Elkhart Memorial 48-26 and lost to Washington 42-36.

Shane Heimann (125), Tyler Cline (130), Ken McIntosh (119), Jeremy Tackitt (119) and Tim Cotton (130) each won all of their matches for the Warriors.

The Warriors, 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference, host Plymouth on Tuesday.

The Whitko Wildcat wrestling team won 10 of 14 matches en route to a Monday win over North Miami.

Winning for the Wildcats were Drew Shilling (103), Ben Watson (112), Keith Bird (119), Mitch Mathias (125), Steve Imbody (145), Mark Rakoczy (152), Todd Grube (160), Eddie Fields (171), Mark Christian (215) and Scott Barker (275).

Barker and Rakoczy kept their perfect season records intact. Barker is 25-0, and Rakoczy is 14-0. Also for Whitko, Grube is 23-2, and Robbie Nieto (189) is 19-6.

Whitko won the junior varsity match 15-0. Jordan Schrader had two of Whitko's four wins, winning matches in the 112 and 119 classes. Seth Slater (171) and Jeremiah Rakoczy (171) also won for Whitko.

On Saturday, the Whitko Wildcat wrestling team placed fifth in the eight-team Goshen Invitational.

Lowell won the invitational with 228.5 points. Goshen followed with 218.5, and Fort Wayne North Side was third with 170.5. Whitko had 133 points.

Whitko's Grube (160) and Barker (275) each placed first with 3-0 records. Nieto (189) was 2-1 and finished second.

Rakoczy was named Whitko's Wrestler of the Week last week.

Gymnastics

Warsaw Places Second

At Valparaiso, the Warsaw gymnastics team finished second in a four-team Saturday meet.

Valparaiso won the meet.

Warsaw's Kari Lipply placed sixth on the beam, seventh in the floor exercise and eighth in the vault and bars. She placed third in the all-around.

Teammate Callie Edgington placed sixth in the all-around, seventh in the vault and ninth in the beam and floor exercise.

Also for Warsaw, Mandy Rice placed eight in the floor exercise and seventh all-around. Christy Bassford placed 10th in the floor exercise and eight in the all-around. Bethany Young placed 10th in the vault.

Warsaw hosts Homestead on Tuesday.
