Valley Discusses Enrollment Numbers

Posted
MENTONE - Total enrollment is down at Tippecanoe Valley Schools.

During Monday night's Tippecanoe Valley School Board meeting at Mentone Elementary School, the 2009 enrollment numbers were discussed.Akron and Mentone Elementary schools are down 23 and 12 students respectively. Tippecanoe Valley Middle School is up 18 students, while the high school is down 25 students from last year.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Daniel Kramer said one reason the numbers may be off is how students are classified.

Students are no longer listed by grade in terms of their years in school but by how many credits they've earned.

The board also heard a presentation from curriculum director Angie Miller on the 2008 summer school program.

Miller said 89 percent of the students enrolled in summer school attended. Miller also told the board that a summer reading program was adopted for students in first through third grade.

The board also discussed the merger of a services grant that brought Rochester and Caston Schools together with Tippecanoe Vally for meetings that aim to improve the school and make them more efficient.

The board also adopted its 2009 budget along with a school bus replacement plan.

n Boggs also announced that College Recruiting 101, a program that will be hosted by former television personality Charlie Adams, will be at the high school lecture room Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.

The program is designed to help student-athletes and their parents determine which school is the best for them.

The next board meeting will be Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Mentone Elementary School.
