V. Richard 'Dick' Miller

MILFORD – V. Richard “Dick” Miller, 76, Englewood, Fla., went to heaven at 3:37 p.m. May 18, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 27, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Wallace T. and Enid Lillian Conklin Miller. On Aug. 19, 1961, after a whirl-wind courtship, he married his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Jane Kay Rothrock. The family moved to Warsaw in 1947. Active in community service, he was a member of countless civic organizations and was a member of the F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge, Warsaw. He and Jane returned to Indiana in 1967 to join the family business – Miller’s Merry Manors – founded in Warsaw. The company grew to over 40 facilities in Indiana. Over the course of their marriage, he and Jane resided briefly in Peoria then Zion, Ill., and at length in Plymouth then Syracuse, then Boca Raton, Fla., and most recently Englewood, Fla. He served in the Indiana State Senate from 1976 to 1988, six of those years in leadership. He was the recipient of numerous awards for his many accomplishments. He attended Warsaw schools, graduating in 1957. He received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1963 and received a MSBA from Indiana University South Bend in 1972. He was a loving father to V. Richard II (and spouse Barbara) Miller and Pamela Sue (and spouse Jerry) Dilley. He was survived by his siblings, R. James (and spouse Judy) Miller, Beverly Jean Miller and Barbara Jane (and spouse Gary) Miller; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two children and two grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse. A meal and soiree will follow at South Shore Golf Club, Syracuse.
