The final numbers are in for the 2009 United Way Pacesetter campaign.
According to Monica Wilson, of the United Way, the five companies that served as pacesetters this year saw a 15.3-percent increase from their fundraising last year.
OrthoPediatrics and Anytime Fitness were in their first year as Pacesetters. Biomet, DePuy and Medtronic were the other companies that served as Pacesetters this year. The total amount raised for this year's campaign is $840,871.25. This has put the United Way well on its way to its total campaign goal of $1,925,000.
"We used Pacesetters to do just that," said Wilson. "Set the pace. We focus on those companies for the month of August and support them to help them reach their goal."
Each company used its own set of incentives as well as matches by the corporate offices.
The money raised is used to help fund the 55 programs the United Way is involved with. Money also goes to special events like the annual Day of Caring.
"All of our Pacesetters did a great job," said Wilson. "A lot of people are hesitant to give in our economy. Our Pacesetters proved that there is no better time to give. It also spoke to our slogan for this year, which is 'No gift too small.'"
