Posted

An accident on U.S. 30 claimed the life of a Warsaw man Thursday night.

Loran Paul Ramer, 28, of Warsaw, was pronounced dead at Kosciusko Community Hospital after the SUV he was driving was hit by a semi-tractor trailer.

Around 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Ramer was southbound on Silveus Crossing when he tried to cross U.S. 30 and was hit by the semi driven by Donald J. Tindall, 52, of Lake Station. The semi was traveling about 55 miles per hour and carrying an 8,000-pound load.

According to witness statements taken by the Warsaw Police Department, Tindall did not stop for a red light. Witnesses said the traffic signal changed from green to yellow to red, then they heard Tindall blow his truck's horn.

The light was green for traffic on Silveus Crossing when Ramer entered the intersection.

Tindall's semi hit Ramer's SUV on the driver's side, trapping Ramer inside. Ramer was extricated from his vehicle and taken to Kosciusko County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Tindall was not injured in the collision.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but drug and alcohol tests are pending.

The accident remains under investigation by the Warsaw Police Department Vehicle Crash Reconstruction investigators. WPD was assisted at the scene by the Warsaw Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.
